FYI...
Every [Midnite] SMA E-Panel comes with a shunt trip breaker. SMA
requested this when they asked MidNite to design an E-Panel for them.
You will need the battery disconnect module to go with each E-Panel
though. The battery disconnect modules connect to the Birdhouse and to
the shunt trip breakers.

Hey Steve,
Yes I'm reading that code article closely and I think its open to
interpretation. If you consider PV circuits to include the battery
based inverters, you would need to include them in rapid shutdown.
For some reason I thought it applied to all of the DC conductors,
including the battery cabling, but it looks like that isn't explicitly
called out. Midnites system does have a way to do it.. That will
probably show up on the next code cycle.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Mac,
Do you mean to ask for a way to shut down the Sunny Boys connected
to the Multicluster box?
Sunny Islands are not applicable to the rapid shutdown
requirements. They are not PV.

Hi Wrenches,
I am working on a rapid shutdown design with an SMA multi-cluster
box with 6 x 6048 Sunny Island Inverters, 2 per phase. I will be
utilizing a Midnite system for some roof top combiners. Is there
a way to shutdown the Sunny Islands via communication from the
Midnite rapid shut down box? Or do I need to do shunt-trip
breakering?
Thanks
Mac Lewis**
