I won't go less than double the inverter rating anymore with gensets.
So the Kohler 12 kW is probably the lowest cost, decent match for the
XW. Otherwise you're just over working the genset, which usually aren't
designed for continuous duty. It keeps the voltage stable enough to not
disconnect when a surge (like that sewage pump) comes on.
As far as 1800 rpm, I don't know anything under 20 kw in propane. The
fuel consumption of a 20kw at 25% is very comparable to the 12kW at
50%. I've been considering diesel, but just always have been worried
about cold starting in the mountains.

Ray I would love to know which larger propane gen set you are
suggesting. 1800 or 3600 rpm. Air cooled or water cooled. To my
knowledge there are very few L cooled 1800 rpm gen sets in the 12-15kW
range. T

I have a question: why so small a generator? I've always regretted
under sizing the genny for battery charging. Larger gensets are not
as fuel hungry as you might think. I was surprised recently when I
did some calcs, and found that a larger genset would actually get
slightly better fuel consumption at the proposed load.
Plus the larger gensets are usually built to last longer than the
portable stuff.

Hello Again All,
Or I'd consider suggesting propane to the customer as well. Any
experience with know compatibles in propane?

Thanks All,
Aren't there any 5-8 KW gas gennys out there already set up for
2-wire start? We do that all the time with bigger units.
Thanks again!
Best,
jc
