Thank you, Wrenches, as always for your spirited dialog. It has been a
common practice of our company for a long time to pair MC4 connectors and
PV wire for commercial 1000v systems. In a recent install the crew wasn't
properly informed and they employed Buchanan crimps (as is our standard <
600v residential solution). A QA/QC contractor happens to have a very,
very close eye on this project and has requested the submittal of the
Buchanan spec sheet. This is what prompted my question to the list.

I'm not going to lie, I was hoping Mr. Mehalic was going to answer the
question with something along the lines of '*a rooftop j-box qualifies as a
fixture and you're good to go*' but I was equally prepared for "*I do think
the text on the Buchanan spec sheet in regards to voltage makes it a no-go
for 1kV+ systems*".

I wasn't expecting the tangential discussion about the use of MC4
connectors inside a junction box and I'm going to have to weigh the pros
and cons of them in this application carefully. That being said, in a
decade of performing installations doing precisely that, I've opened plenty
of them up years later and been very happy with what I've found inside
looking neat and tidy. And I can't think of a single arc fault in such a
scenario that wasn't directly related to someone improperly torquing the
connector.

Cheers,
Sam
