Dave Addey! (great name, btw)

That UI for your DJ app looks amazing! Great job!

oh.... and I just tried your app out on my Mac Book Pro, and while my testing certainly isn't a measure of 'pro stability'... it worked great... I am especially impressed at your scrubbing implementation and pitch changing. And your app is absolutely true to the hardware functions. Nice work.

Library importing choked, but that might be because I have movies in my iTunes lib as well. I didn't try just using iTunes instead...

If I get some time later tonight I'll hook up another output to try and see if stereo cue-mixing works.

If you'd like me to try something specific, contact me off list.

Hi Erick,

I've done this via method b), and it's really not that much of a pain. One session of sitting down with the rotate tool in Photoshop and automating the export process, and you're done. I found that 72 graphics made for a smooth rotate - one for every 5 degrees. My class stores the actual angle even more accurately, and just uses the closest angle graphic when rendering.

My DJ app uses this approach:

Works well if you want a true knob "turning" effect.

Unfortunately, I'm a little wary of sharing the class or graphics - last time I shared something like this (it was some iTunes parsing classes in the previous case), a competitor (quite legitimately and fairly) integrated them
into his app, so I don't really want to do the same again :-(

Dave.

Subject: rotary knob?

Does anyone have an example of a rotary knob that has the following
characteristics?

(a) looks good, rotates smoothly and doesn't look like it has
"corners" in the travel
(b) doesn't require 64 pre-rendered/rotated knob images
(c) can use 2DShape, Graphics, or whatever

I've found a few on the web, but most failied a and/or b.

Thanks,
Erick
