In my company, there is an unwritten "forgive one email of doom" rule - let someone fly off the handle once. When I was international sales manager at Eudora (a division of the large Qualcomm), they gave very little rope to that, so single emails tended to get people fired. But, since its so easy to write, revise, and spill spleen in email without thinking about how harsh it is, you are bound to do it at some point. Lists arent a natural sort of dialog. Just like you wouldn't normally flip out at REAL's engineers, likely the engineers would also be in a position to interactively step through issues with you - making you a happier camper.
