A thought has crossed my mind here. In iTunes and QT you can set an endpoint before the end of the track (to account for things like silence at the end!). It may be that this is set, and the other progs are reading the length as the specified play length rather than the actual length that Rb is doing.

I've checked that. None of the other applications are using the iTunes database (which is where that stop time is stored). These podcasts are coming in from an external source, and they all have this time differential even if never played in iTunes.
