I made a quick unscientific test on my system: I can open 100% of all files with my specific extensions. But I can open less than 5% of all text files. It is impossible to think of an behavior as maclike where in an open dialog more than 95% of the files cannot be opened by the user. Wouldn't it be called "Do not open dialog" then?
And again: about 90% of the files with my specific extensions don't have filetypes.
