Sorry to disturb again...
When I asked to filter out just .xml files, you told me that is
not Mac.
And nearly all agree, and said I am wrong, that is not Mac.
Once again, was it wrong because RB not have the feature to filter
out just .xml?
No, it's wrong because a file with no extension that has a MacType
of whatever the XML standard MacType is, won't be able to be opened
by your program.
MacType is a valid metadata information that should always be used,
in addition to extensions. By supporting it, you're not limiting
your ability to open .xml files, but enhancing your ability to work
on the Mac when a user deletes the extension. Sure, they may not do
it often or at all,
but is it really that hard to type in the MacType desired so that
it *does* work if it ever happens?
I think you mean, if it is problem for me to add the MacType to the
filter, if so 'No it is not'.
But what happens then?
(In my case it is 'Word XML')
1 - If the MacType = "TEXT" then all TEXT files is showing, and then
the user have to 'find' the correct file.
2 - That also means that he could select wrong file, perhaps
some .txt file. And that take time, to first open the file, the my
app should tell the user that is wrong file, please try again... (And
I think the user would like if it is some easier in the Dialogbox to
find the file. And I know it, because I have asked my beta testers,
both old and new Mac users, one of then give me the tip to check
PhotoShop.)
3 - The MacType in my filter have no meaning in many cases (I think
100%), the file we talk about is 'Word XML' .. And the Mac
Application TextEdit do Not add MacType when it is creating Word XML,
and I don't think MS Word do that.
5 - And happens when the user change the extension, on an file that
have NO MacType.
Your extension filter need to have that extension, but it impossible
to know what extension he change to. So then the extension filter
have to be a 'joker' OR the MacType.. Then it would show all files...
(The idea with filter MacType or extension fails)
5 - And the last, the MacType have not get me any problems, the
problems for me was to filter .xml
And when this is not possible in RB, then I try to find some
workaround, and found one.
6 - Perhaps you and many other old Mac user, have your explanation
that is not Mac, okey files without MacType is not Mac, but it not
helps, we are today using files from many platforms, and as you know
there are more 'No Mac files' out there then 'Mac files'.

Resume:
I understand that you and many others think it is wrong and not Mac
like to filter files.
I think we know how it works now, and there are no that could do more
about it.
My recommendation in this case must be, do not trust MacType, the
mostly files don't have an Mactype.
And that's because more and more Mac applications do not add MacType
Sorry that was much more than the 'problem from start'
