Keith,

Also very concerned about this topic, I stumbled on something the other day. Using:

http://www.realsoftware.com/feedback/viewreport.php?reportid=hagzejij

as a guideline, I found that the program ONLY crashes in 2000/XP but never in 98/ME/NT. Can you confirm or deny these observations? I imagine it is becoming more of a problem for us because customers are finally moving to XP with MS officially ending support for 98, but it would be nice to have a solution... soon.

I attached a project there that I can pretty much get to crash in 2000/XP on cue.

Brian,
ANY RB program compiled for Windows that accesses a printersetup string will regularly crash on print. The same code on a Mac works flawlessly. We have several small demo programs in the feedback system that demonstrate this
basic and fundamental flaw in REAlbasic.

Since you brought it up, your comments DO say a lot about how few commercial
Windows apps that print have been deployed by those "more than 100,000
REALbasic users all over the world". When I first raised this issue 2 years ago there was just a couple of us. Today it's a dozen or so. Those of us shipping apps that print are losing customers and watching our support costs
skyrocket.

Well, with "more than 100,000 REALbasic users all over the world"
(and all those people using the applications developed by those
'users') and only a few of us concerned with this problem, there's
obviously only a small percentage of developers/customers affected,
which probably explains why this is such a low priority to REAL
Software.

The 'feedback system' doesn't lie!

:-}

Any updates from anyone on the the Windows print crashing?

I've had no response from REAL Software in months and months despite
numerous recent bug report updates on this list and in the feedback system.
It's now been years since I first reported the issue.

The financial impact on my business has become serious enough for me that
abandoning REALbasic for future product development is a serious
alternative. Please contact me off list if you would like to participate in a
group to formally address this issue with REAL Software.
