I tried that, unfortunately it just rebuilds the file with the same problem. :(

I would delete the precompiled plug-in cache and see if that helps. It should be in the <username>/Application Data/REALBasic 2006 directory. The slowness you're seeing is likely RB's attempt to rebuild this file on each compile.
