This has probably been discussed to death on the list, but I did some
benchmarking on a fairly large graphics program. These are the
results for a screen update:
RB 2006 RB 5.5
RB 4.5
Win XP AMD 1.6 1.25 sec 0.29 sec
0.24 sec
G5 1.6 0.32 sec 0.24
sec 0.41 sec
MacBook 1.25 sec 0.52 sec
0.63 sec
iMac Intel 1.22 sec 0.49
sec 0.61 sec
The difference between the 4.5 and 5.5 builds are reasonable.
The difference between the Intel-Macs and the G5 are reasonable on
the 5.5 compiles.
The speed on a G5 compiled with 2006 is reasonable.
What is not reasonable is the performance of the Intel / RB 2006
(current release). 2-1/2 times slower on Rosetta is not reasonable.
Based on experiences from other programs suggests a reasonable slow-
down in the region of 40-60%, which is what it is on the 5.5 compiles.
Even more remarkable is the Windows compile being a whopping five
times slower than expected.
Also remarkable is that the Windows compile is not quicker than the
PPC Mac compile running under Rosetta.
RB 2006 seems to dislike Intel style processors for some reason.
Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.
