Let's pray for this plugin, I've been stuck on it for months !!
Using mysql 5 ... absolutely no way of a plugin besides the ODBC one.

In regards to having a database stored on a central server, I'd say
MySQL is your best bet, powerful and free. I agree, the interfacing
currently in RB isn't great, but it works fine for my needs!
There is also rumors of a new Database Plugin of some sort being
available at some point for MySQL so it is a good choice for the future.

Can someone offer some database engine advice? I have been with Real

long enough to see them go through three database models and
deprecate the
previous one each time. I am tired of having to change my code, and
having ask my
users to convert their files - in some cases dozens of files. Also, I
would
like to have a system of multiple users accessing a central database
on a company
network - nothing too fancy - just the ability for a user to pull
stuff in
read only or writable depending on which things he assigned to have
access to,
and to prevent two people from changing the same stuff at the same time.
I am also thinking down the line. If I go with a portal based
application
that would access the same database, I would need a generic database.
Can someone recommend a course of action, or a third party db plugin or
license?
thanks
Greg
