Peter (and others),
From my experience, Canvas has no problem with RB vector-based
pictures.
One "gotcha" is in Canvas. If I recall correctly, when Canvas has its
default prefs, and you cut-and-paste from RB to canvas, the picture
comes thru, but the individual items can't be ungrouped or selected.
the trick is, in 'Canvas'
1. under the 'canvas' menu select 'configuration center'
2. under the 'general' disclosure triangle, click on 'functionality
options'
3. deselect 'paste pict object as Metaobject'
Now, when a vector-based picture is pasted into canvas, it can be
ungrouped and individual objects can be selected.
I have had a few problems. When circles (ovalshapes) are pasted in
they don't always scale very well. sometimes they become squashed
ovals (usually at small sizes).
Other than that I haven't had serious problems. I do remember that
when I first had success, Joe Strout and some others were surprised.
If you continue having difficulties, let me know.

Second, when I make graphs I make them with the idea of exporting,

Hi John:
I too am a neuroscientist and use Canvas for my manuscript figures.
I'd be interested to learn how you create vector graphics in RB that
are exportable to other apps via the clipboard.
I believe I had an exchange with Joe Strout a while back where he
explained that RB vectors are proprietary and not understood by other
Mac apps (which only understand PICTs AFAIK, tho the more modern
format is PDF but I don't think any/many apps have been updated to
recognizes PDF data on the clipboard [too bad as PICTs are really a
low-resolution pain to use]).
Any tips welcome with great interest!
(BTW, was your paper accepted in J Neurosci?)
Cheers,
Peter.
