I assume you need control of text color... Just draw your caption  in a picture 
and use it as the icon.

If you have an icon already just make a bigger icon (if needed) that is a 
composite of the two.

You can even do it on the fly if you need to...and make a subclass to handle 
the whole thing. Much better solution IMO.
