Hi Jay

Either way you have to open Port 5900 so you can VPN - is there
All you need to do is open up port 5500, at your site.

Postgressql is a great database - nothing wrong with it at all.

Agreed .

The
REALSQLServer made more sense for our situation, point and click
install, no command line, direct support from the same company that
makes our chosen development environment.

I'm not arguing about the Real SQL server being a valid choice. It
seems to be OK.
I'm unlikely to give a more informed view of Real SQL server since it
does not offer anything more than postgres does, other than an easier
installation.

Case and point: Go to the home of the postgres database.

http://www.postgresql.org

Find a Mac installer. Hmmm.
Find Mac GUI client tools. Hmmm.
Ok, well go to the top of the page and do a search for Macintosh. Hmmmm.

Ok, check out some of the 3rd party Macintosh Installers:

http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/postgresql/
http://developer.apple.com/internet/opensource/postgres.html
http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2002/06/07/postgresql.html

Doing a search on versiontracker reveals a few more. Check them out.
Now install and setup the REALSQLServer.

Part of your reasoning was the bottom line. Lets say you sell to 200
clients, at $500 USD per client

That's $10000 USD to develop a Mac Postgres Installer, which could
then be given back to the postgres community. If the installer was
written with RB then that would be a great advertisement for RB as
well.

For each client thereafter you can decide where the extra $500 USD goes.
