Ah, I see. You were suggesting that the bottleneck is not with the
string
manipulation at all, but, rather, with the function calls,
IsNumeric being
one example.
I think you’re right, but I am going to try other ideas to confirm.
No-one has suggested serial grep replacements. Any reason? I don't
have time to test that, but I'd be interested in whether it was faster.
