OK, I should have been more specific. For my purposes, Valentina is
more expensive.
All of my solutions are based on a centralised server, infinite
client premise.
MySQL can provide this for 250 Euro. As far as I can tell Valentina
costs US$1500 for the same scope of license.
If I'm wrong, please tell me, but that is how I interpret the pricing
as laid out at http://www.paradigmasoft.com/en/store/business/VSRV.
Add to that the fact there are so many different variations of
Valentina (5 Different 'Editions' each with 5 or more different
options) and I find it all thoroughly confusing, though less so that
the GPL. I'd rather just tack 250 Euro onto my prices (which they
discount if you buy in blocks of ten or more, by the way) and use
MySQL. It's just me though.
Valentina wins hands down for single user, embedded server type
stuff. If I ever found a need for an embedded server, I'd try
Valentina over the built in RS option any day, but my work does not
lean in that direction.

So I choose MySQL.
But it is not on par with Valentina on licensing - where the
licensing hurts
most with mySQL. We specifically designed the Valentina license to be
competitive with mySQL.
You can distribute Valentina Embedded Server in its default mode
royalty
free and in unlimited quantities. Connections are not named. There are
enough connections there to serve the SMB marketplace and not have
to pay
any more. Plus, there is an "infinite" version of Embedded Server
that is on
a per deployment basis.
