We are looking into some options for our forum, like email
notification, to give you a similar "push" to what you experience
from a mailing list, while still keeping all of the data in one
location.
I think that would be great. Even just an email to let us know that
a new topic has started would be cool.
I disagree. This is nowhere near the usefullness of having all the
messages in the mailbox
and being able to search them quicky - even when offline.
