They'll search for it, of course, or they'll find it linked from any other RB fan site they stumble across. (I'll link to it from http://www.strout.net/info/coding/rb for example.) I'm sure it will also get mentioned in RB Developer; it'll be listed on RBGarage; and most likely, it will also get mentioned from time to time on the official RB forums. And the first time they have a specific RB question, and they type search terms into Google, they'll most likely find the answer on the archives of the new list, which will of course tell them how to sign up. There are solutions like that, but I've never seen them work well (apart from LUGNET, as mentioned). I think that's because the two approaches (forums and mailing lists) are sufficiently different that they just don't fit together well, if you start with one and try to tack on the other. You need to design something from the ground up. But of course it's entirely possible that there's a great solution out there I haven't seen yet.
