the new MBP are a delight to work with none of the issues with the Macbook HDD issues and Firmware issues. Also None of the problems associated with the old Core Duo MBP.

If you can purchase the MBP, the MBP would be more stable over time then the MB's. The core 2 duo not the Core Duo.

MacBooks Black are plagued with problems. At least the ones we bought from 2 different stores.

I recently bought an MBP 17" with 3GB but haven't used it enough to compare compile times.

I can verify that BootCamp works nicely also that VMWare Fusion was extremely smooth to install and run existing VMWare images - an XP copied from work (prepared on Windows) and an Ubuntu appliance downloaded.

Quoting Kevin Windham <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

I would agree with most of this, but I would add that a MacBook is
pretty bad at any current games. Meaning if you want to play anything
other than casual games, or older titles, you will probably be
disappointed.
I have verified that with BootCamp, running games like Unreal Tournament on the MBP flies :-)

One of my big considerations for the longer term was if I wanted to develop anything that involved serious graphics then I would want the MBP graphics card for testing purposes at least. That includes playing with Core Image and Core Animation in Leopard.

I found these comparisons very helpful:

versus Others
"So inquiring minds want to know if it provides enough "punch" over the Core Duo version to deem the MacBook as an "S" model. Or is that integrated GPU going to ruin all the fun?"

The other things on the MacBook Pro's side

- up to 3GB RAM (MacBook 2GB)
3GB has been recommended to me if you are going to run VMWare at the same time then RB as at RB2007r1 seems to really want to use up to 2GB. My PPC G4 with only 1.25GB chokes at times!

- Choice of glossy or matte screen (MacBook, only glossy)
I spent a fair while agonising over this and went for matte.

- ExpressCard slot for expansion
This may not sound a big deal if, like me, you haven't had PC cards for a long time (since my PB190) but remember this enables use of:
- wireless broadband, 3G options
- ExpressCard/34 SATA host adapter. as discussed at http://www.barefeats.com/mbcd7.html
