Fair enough, but what we're trying to get at here is: is the IDE doing
something we can't do?  Or could it be that they're still using
MenuItem.PopUp, but have taken care to do things like call it on
MouseDown on the Mac but MouseUp on Windows?

Agreed; I was never arguing that it wasn't a bug or shouldn't be fixed.
I just don't believe that they're doing any tricks we couldn't do
ourselves, or are somehow using a different version of the framework
than what we have.

(Of course if this is a new bug in R2, then that would explain it --
the IDE is of course using the R1 framework, as David explained
earlier.)
