Highly topical - I've just come out of the second of a series of  
seminars being held here by Phil Schwan formerly of Cluster File  
Systems talking about how they reduced their bug count and  
dramatically improved their forecasting by applying the Personal  
Software Process.

I'd read about this stuff and considered it academically interesting  
before. He had compelling figures about how a team of world-class  
developers were still able to radically improve their game by using it.
