I've had similar experiences. Except that the commands to encode were
coming from a Mac IIci running a script under MPW through a serial port,
still worked great. We were also running multiple encoders to save to three
formats simultaneously. Except for power outages, 100% uptime.

|Here ar www.daypub.com We have a Redhat 6.0 Linux system
|running the 5.0
|version of RealEncoder. It runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Real
|Encoder has NEVER crashed or locked up. We also have an MP3
|player on the
|same machine which also never has a problem. The player plays
|on sound card
|#1, which has an audio cable that feeds into sound card #2
|which handles the
|encoding.
|
|Linux + 2 Sound Cards + Realencoder + MPG123 player & customer
|scripting =
|VERY RELIABLE.
|
|We do however have the RealServer hosted by a professional
|hosting company.
|
|Initially we started the station running under NT 4.0, and
|needed to reboot
|literally every single day. Eventually the encoder would
|freeze up or do
|something goofy.
