Portable DATs cost a fortune and, in my experience, are possessed by Satan
when it comes to reliability (some days it works, some days it don't!)
Still - the audio quality IS much better...but you might want to give
Minidisc a shot first...you'll spend about $250-$350 instead of $1000 and
perhaps get audio that's good enough for what you're doing --- MD does
sound pretty darn good. A HELL of a lot better than cassette (unless your
cassette deck cost over $10,000)

I would consider a better mic - the seinheiser 66 has a narrow frequency
response and also brings in lots of noise. What kind of audio are you
trying to record?

I have a Seinheiser ME66 Mic, a DXA-4S Dual XLR Adapter, a TRV 900 =
Digital Camera, DV raptor, and the audio still is not clean and robust
enough. I am = considering spending another $1000 to get a DAT Recorder
"Sony PCM-M1 DAT Recorder" Is this = the right choice? can anyone give me
some advice on what type of equipment is best for = recording the excellent
audio in the field?
Thanxs in advance
