not 100% sure - but doesn't exlivpix need a GIF or a JPEG image itself
to create a live RP stream? The change of the image is determined by
looking at the modification date of the image file. Transitions and
other real pix attributes are hardcoded in the program and are being
generated "on the fly" in this RP live stream.

Just name the GIF file instead of the RP file on the exlivpix cmdline
and it should work. At least on my (IRIX) system, exlivpix streams GIF
and JPEG images perfectly.
