Hi there. I am Banton, working with Cecil on our project I am faced
with an issue that I think we could all use a solution for that has
been talked about already.

Issue : Backing up the server/scene content.

Catch : being able to edit and reimport into scene inclusively.

I have recently lost a hard drive that wasn't backed up. I guess
through my own idealism and reading something about backing up, I was
hoping it was possible to get back content from the server when all is
lost.

I understand we can get the models.mesh files and their relevant
textures and assume all will work if we convert and maybe rename
textures.

Currently we have used a botch tool (3dr) to try recover files back to
max format but there are issues with that in that, the models are off
in the rotation and placement (I think) and scale looks to be squashed
along either the y or x axis.

I read on cecils thread about custom anims and gestures that a simple
script can be made that can help in this back up process taking the
files fro the server and get them back to .mesh and textures that
aren't .dds. I think the material files were ok correct me if I am
wrong.

Could anyone help with this script and back up solution ?

What would happen if we had to move servers ?

Of course, I should point out that this is something we started on
taiga and are now facing moving to tundra which a hard drive has
collapsed in the mean time.

Please help if you can and or reassure me if I have missed something
obvious.

Currently, I am looking at getting the 3dr ripped max file and
chopping up / resetting individual meshes back to their normal form
and of course the scale/rotation/position issue. I'm not looking
forward to doing all of this at this time.

Thanks in advance

banton.
