WMC Resources and
Arabunna opponents meet
in Adelaide

Representatives of the Arabunna Aboriginal
community have today held talks in Adelaide
with W.M.C. Resources, which operates the
Olympic Dam uranium mine in South Australia's
far north.

The meeting was prompted by the concerns of
Aboriginal protestor Kevin Buzzacott, who has
accused the company of committing genocide
against Aborigines.

About a dozen Aborigines attended the meeting,
including some senior elders who are
understood to be unhappy with Mr Buzzacott's
protest camp outside Government House in
Adelaide.

The meeting decided that in about six weeks
time, there would be a two to three day
gathering of Arabunna representatives in Port
Augusta.

Aboriginal Lands Trust executive officer Chris
Larkin said that the gathering would determine
what direction the Arabunna community will
take, and who will speak as its representative.

"It's important for them to come toegether and
decide as a people what are the main issues
and how they want to go about addressing
those," said Mr Larkin.

On behalf of W.M.C, spokesman Richard
Yeeles said today's meeting was frank and
cordial.

"Well I think it was a useful meeting..it was an
opportunity for different points of view to be put
on the table and to be considered and I just say
I think, from both points of view, it was a useful
meeting," said Mr Yeeles.
