Hi Tim and Trudy,
I do not have the figures here at this time, but an interesting read is just
how many people die in gaols while they are still on remand (Australian
Institute of Criminology figures will help here). They have not been
convicted of anything and they either suicide, are murdered (by other
inmates or officers), or die of neglect and a lack of duty of care (still
murder in my eyes - but officially sanctioned).
The 'death penalty' does not have to be handed down by a court to be a
reality.
