Just a suggestion, but it would be easy to circumvent this ruling by
substituting something else for the flag and encouraging people to wear it.
Don't ask me what, but I'm sure others could come up with something
culturally appropriate. Different things can symbolise the same thing, just
as long as the convention is widely understood.
There is a broader civil liberties issue here, that handled inthe right way,
could win widespread sympathy on the Aussie "fair go" basis. I was
surprised at the sympathy for Freeman when she was criticised for flying the
Aboriginal flag at the Commonwealth Games. You could probably also raise
money by selling whatever the substitute was.
However, as a footnote, I should say that I am very uneasy at a lot of the
activities being undertaken in conjunction with the Olympics to raise world
consciousness of the Australian Aboriginal plight. Anything other than
quiet illustration is likely to be counter productive in the domestic
Australian context and give the reregistered One Nation a bit of a boost.
