It seems to me that Rod H. is on the right track here, with his
wonderful ideas for involving spectators in a bit of mass "civil
disobedience".
How many people crossed that bridge in Sydney? A good part,
maybe a majority, of the people attending the Olympics are going
to be Sydneysiders. If everyone who attends any Olympic event
wears a tiny Koori flag or patch (bought or home-made), surely the
gate attendants, etc, will throw up their hands. Security will
likewise be overwhelmed (and, it is to be hoped, shamed) and
unable or unwilling to act. And what a statement to the world! (My
favourite of Rod's ideas is that everyone who attends the Olympics
should wear a lot of either red or yellow or black. Then the entire
stadium becomes a shout of support for the Koori colours!
So, to get this going, we need to get letters in the Sydney papers,
ring up Sydney talk-back stations, post to any news groups we
can think of, and get all the church groups and reconciliation
groups on side. There's plenty of time to get it going.
