Our red5 setup consumes a lot of memory as you can see in my "top" dump:

top - 10:39:06 up 12 days, 18:51, 4 users, load average: 0.13, 0.11, 0.03
Tasks: 103 total, 1 running, 102 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie

Swap: 4096532k total, 488k used, 4096044k free, 2394464k cached

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND

We have 4 GB and java takes more than half for itself. Red5 isn't doing
anything it just takes all the memory when started. Why does he do this? Is
it normal?

Currently Red5 loads 4 Applications written by me (the demos are removed).

  - site monitor
  - FLV streamer
  - chat app
  - red5 monitor (which I currently are working on and I want to release
it soon as open source project)
