No, there's nothing to worry about. Mem total usage always includes 
application memory _and_ memory used by the kernel for buffers and caching 
([disk]cache is at 2GB+ on your top output already, buffer caches is probably 
also some more).

If you want to get "real" data on memory consumption, type "free".

This displays a special line which informs you about actual used/free memory 
if buffers and cache are removed from the equation.
