OK.. first of all, you need to install CIM as a RedDot plugin (same way you install any other standard plugin)
Once installed, access your project via SmartTree - and under 'Administer Project Structure > Project' - click on the 'Content Import Manager' link in the action menu. >From there you have two options - 1. 'Edit Import Profiles' or 2. 'Import' content. Under Edit Import Profiles, you can set up a whole lot of different types of imports that you run against your project. For each profile: 1. you need to set up where you want the new pages to be created under (first of all you need to determine which list/container in the project you want your pages to be connected to via a page search) 2. determine which template in your project the new pages will be created from 3. determine the data source type for your existing content (e.g. xml, html pages, database etc) 4. map the fields from the data source to each of your content class elements in the template you have selected 5. Set any page defaults (headline, filename, keywords etc) 6. Set the after import action (will your pages be automatically released after import etc??) Once that’s all set up, you can then run the import for each of your profiles. With this info, you should find that everything else is rather self explanatory. It’s worth noting that the Content Import Manager isn’t a blanket plugin you can use to convert all of the content from another format/ site into your project. It can’t do everything for you. Essentially importing content is a half manual/half automated process using CIM... but it should save you a whole heap of time! Good luck!
