seems we figured it out. as part of the move to a remote datacenter, a
second NIC was added to the servers to be used for monitoring. Once we
disabled this new card, we could see the logs again. We'll have to
investigate why. The server that was moved and still worked already
had a second NIC built into the motherboard and continued working
