Sorry, the use of hosts made me think it was a beginner question. Having
seen your name so many times I should have known better...

Then it sounds like, yes, it is complicated enough you have your own
reasons and without actually being more intimately involved in your
network I couldn't offer a better solution involving DNS. So, in short,
I stand corrected and will now shut up...
