I can't add much except that I've seen very similar behavior, under
slightly different curcumstances. I've never had it happen in mail, but
sometimes when a (poorly designed? slow?) web page is being
uncooperative, all of Communicator will go blank, as if it's waiting on
one blocked process to clear before it does ANYTHING. As with P.O.'s
situation, switching between any and all Communicator windows, including
the one I was in when things started to hang, gives totally blank boxes.
There have been times when it hasn't come back, and I've had to kill
'Scape and start over (or it just exhausted my patience before the
blockage cleared).
