420mb should be fine. When you install choose custom and strip it down to
just the very basics. The answers to your other questions as follows:
1. This will depend on the PC itself. Intel PC's usually will not boot
without a video card installed. Sun's on the other hand could care less and
live perfectly fine using the Serial as video output! =)
2. Actually when I had a linux firewall box using a dialup 56k modem I had a
lower ping in games (i.e. Half-Life) then having the 56k modem in my
computer. Linux is just a lot more efficient networking box...
3. Do a search on google.com for linux firewalls and/or ipchains and you
will find TONS of resources. The HOW-TO at linuxdoc.org is decent. If you
wanted to get started right away with minimal effort download PMfirewall
(pmfirewall.com). It's extremely easy to setup, just run the install script
and answer some questions.
4. I think you will have enough room for both. You will want to download
the latest version of both (apache 1.3.12, and sendmail 8.11.1).

Subject: Linux firewall/router on 420M drive? Plus other questions...
I want to setup a Linux firewall/router to share my internet connection
between several
computers. Problem is, I only have an old 420meg harddrive to use (rest of
system is Cyrix 166
w/64meg RAM). Is this possible?
I have minimal experience with RH6.2 and have no experience with ipchains.
If this is
possible, it will definitely be a learning experience.
A couple other questions:
1) Is it possible to run this box with no vid card? I might not have a vid
card for it, so I'd
like to completely remote-administer it.
2) Will the linux firewall/router add latency to online gaming? I game
online a decent amount
and don't want to hinder that performance.
3) Is there a definitive source on linux firewalls and/or ipchains?
4) How much space does an apache install require? How about sendmail? I'd
love to have these
on this box as well, but realize it may be impossible.
I know I have more questions, but can't think of them right now. This will
get me started,
anyway...
