[Burke, Thomas G.] Stripped down, with no GCC or X, yes - it can be
done. With no X and GCC, it's probably doable. I have a 386 with 52 (3.1?)
installed on it, but I can't remember the drive size. It's either a 250M or
512M drive... Just be very sparing with what you install. Remember, you
can always add stuff later if you need it.

[Burke, Thomas G.] Check out http://tomii.erols.com/firewall.txt
for starters

[Burke, Thomas G.] You can run "headless," but if you have an old
POC card lying about, drop it in for install, and any other physical use.
It's easier that way. My PII-450 server has a 10 year old (at least) 256k
VGA card in it & an old 13" IBM monitor. Very rarely do I use it, but it's
nice to be able to log in directly (IE network problems)

[Burke, Thomas G.] Yes - the slower the machine, the higher the
latency. It's equivalent to an extra hop on the internet... I don't know
if you'll notice or not. I can't tell the difference with CivII MP, but
maybe you can with Quake (dunno)... Also, if you're masq'd, you can connect
to game servers, but you cannot host your own game without bypassing the
gateway machine.

[Burke, Thomas G.] The HOWTO, & Hal Burgiss' web site

[Burke, Thomas G.] I think they are both about 10M each, but I
wouldn't swear to that...
