    Turning PnP on results in the AHA1542CP to not be recognized at all (and 
consequently severe system crippling happening), so I had to shut it off.  Using the 
tools at http://www.scyld.com/diag/ I was able to change the settings on the 3c509 
card and get it up and running.  All is well now.
