It needs to be configured.  The system does not SEE it.  ifconfig does me no good 
without the card being recognized and loaded.  And modprobing the module results in 
errors because it's not finding the card.  So I needed to find the card's physical 
configuration, and if needed, change it.

    This is a moot point now since I found the tools to do it at 
http://www.scyld.com/diag/ and the card is now up and running.  It was configured as 
0x210 with IRQ 10, and the module wasn't finding it.  Changing it to 0x300, same IRQ 
works.  Last I checked, ifconfig was not able to change NIC parameters (something I 
said over and over again, I need to find out what they are AND/OR CHANGE them).
