All I have had to do, is check the init string in /etc/sysconfig/network
then change the number that pppd dials to the ISDN number, make sure the
modem is setup to operate with the interface that you need with your
provider. Store the settings as default for the modem, and restart the pppd
connection. Should take about 5 minutes of looking at the different files
and minicom for the modem settings and then about 10 seconds for the ISDN
connection. Since you have an external ISDN modem then it will make it
easier to see when and if it connects properly. If you have problems and it
disconnects right away, I have found that if you go to the options file in
/etc/ppp and add two entries, debug and kdebug 7. then try the
connection, then go to /var/log and "tail -f messages" you will see the
information that is being sent and received over the serial interface. If
you are having a problem it helps to see what the local machine is sending
and the isp is sending back.
