Well, the question I'll pose for the group is - How do you think it
affects players over an 81 game home season to have little fan support
and even have large contingents of visitor support? I believe it makes
a difference. Maybe 1 game and maybe 5 games. But I believe it does
count for something. Probably not more than 8 games. My guess is 3 or
4. But we'll never know.

My time horizon is limited to this season. I couldn't care less if they
lose Longoria in six or seven years.

They did find the money to sign Burrell, so they ain't hurting.

My extrapolated point is that they do have a good team, but it's not
sustainable because they don't have the market for it. They'll never be
able to pay the money NY, Boston, and other cities can pay players.
But, it is fun to root for the underdogs with low salaries sometimes. I
liked the Minnesota Twins 1987 team.

Good point. I didn't realize attendance was factored into the standings.

And just maybe they might possibly almost come close to marginally
selling out a regular season game or two this year.

In my humble opinion, the Rays signing of Pat Burrell has received far
too little attention in these parts. For my money, the Rays remain the
team to beat this season. Not only have they added a big bat (I had
concerns that they might have signed Manny, but they've got players who
most likely will have better seasons this year: Longoria, Upton, Pena
(maybe.)

They've got the same studs in the rotation and they're tossing in Price
who was dominant at the tail end of the playoffs.

I also think they still have a fairly deep farm system. McGee is
injured, but they have some other parts.
