One, I guess, encouraging sign is that Beckett is almost exactly repeating
April 2009. Here's hoping he repeats the
entire year and ends at 17 - 6 again....

Beckett has been here before

Josh Beckett after five starts
last season:
2-2, 7.22 ERA, 28.2 IP, 36 H, 24 R, 23 ER, 16 BB, 31 K, .303 OBA

Josh Beckett after five starts this season:
1-0, 7.22 ERA, 28.2 IP, 37 H, 24 R, 23 ERR, 13 BB, 20 K, .316 OBA

Terry Francona, John Farrell and the pitcher himself all contend that he is not
injured. That his velocity is consistent and

within his
normal range suggests that is true. Beckett appears only to have a bad
case of the stinks.
The good news? He was 15-4, 3.33 over his final 27 starts last
season. That clock starts ticking on Sunday in Baltimore.

Not speaking ill of Theo ... I think the Sox will be fine, as soon as players
begin performing at their established levels of ability.
