I don't think that something needs to be "killing the sport" to be changed.

The instant replay request is modest.  A manager should be able to get one a
game.

As to balls and strikes, I would at least want the technology to be used to
rate the umpires and dump the ones who don't know the strike zone.  I think
a 95% accuracy rate in an MLB umpire is not too much to ask.  That's getting
190 pitches right in a 200 pitch game.
