Yes. Baseball is very different for many reasons and is nothing like hockey, basketball, soccer, which are similar in many ways.

In the NFL, NBA and NHL young prospects are expected to deliver much more quickly. Look at this kid that the Bruins drafted this year at 18 years old. He is expected to make the team and contribute next year! Ray - your boy Carlos Santana was looking like one of the exceptions this season until he got injured. But even in his case, he is 24 years old and spent 5 seasons in the minor leagues. I'm not sure why, but baseball seems to require a higher level of maturity to compete than the other major sports. And some heralded young prospects never make it over that hump. Greinke was definitely right, but I think Tom's point is that it is probably a bad PR move to say that publicly. He needs to spend a little time with Crash Davis. Players normally seem to need an up-and-down period before they settle into the majors. Jed Lowrie is one example, but Pedroia came up for his cup of coffee, and Youk was an up-and-down guy for years. So Greinke is probably right.
