Perhaps all those years of looking up at the Yankees payroll has jaded me. Although I'm a fan of winning, there is also a part of me that can appreciate that with a smaller payroll we've contended in the AL East. The balance is where the real game is played - high enough to compete and get into October where it's less about payroll and more about who wants it more and is streaking vs. too low that you can't make it into postseason.
