OTOH, don't you think a lot of these guys have big egos and a lot of pride? I
would think that the way the season ended
would really bother many of them, especially being the butt of jokes, etc. I
would think that guys like Beckett, Lester, Pedroia,
Youk (esp since he couldn't play) would really be pretty pissed and extra
motivated for 2012. Especially knowing that their
actions caused them to lose a manager I think they all liked and basically
treated them like adults. I think the situation might
have been lessened if they had made it in but lost in the first round. Maybe
the way the ended the season will really get under

their skin and provide some extra motivation for 2012.

Good point.

The level of commitment to winning seems like it could be related to the level
of commitment to weight loss.  You say you're all for it, but there is a little
notch of extra focus that's necessary to make it happen.

The problem is, once you lose it, it is difficult to get it back.

Yes.  Now imagine you’re Josh Beckett.  You’ve

perfection is really hard work.  “Hey Lackey – pass me another
Sam Adams will ya?”
