If you remember Lowe actually was a disaster in 04 (talk about drinking in
the clubhouse). He won 14, but his ERA was well over five. He barely made
the post season roster.

Then he did what no one else had done before.....

The other starters were Bronson Arroyo, Wakefield

So you're comparing

Pedro
Schilling
Lowe
Wakefield
Arroyo

to

Lester
Buchholz
Lackey
Beckett
Daisuke

I'd go with 2004 as well just because of Pedro and Schilling, but the 2011
rotation, if they met expectations, would have been good.

But now the question is are those expectations reasonable. I saw no reason
to doubt Lester or Bucholz. Lackey had been consistent until the previous
year, so a bounceback was reasonable.

Beckett and Daisuke were true wild cards.

But I'm not sure where we go from here. I think Lester and Bucholz should be
okay next year, but the rest are giant question marks.
