Yup definitly 100% water change with RODI water.I
did this once with a 500 gallon tank with over 500 lbs of rock .We set up
different stations with rubbermaid tubs.We filled 2 with the water from the
tank. One for scrubbing and one for rinsing. We also had a one tub with freshly
made SW for choice rocks. And another for the rest.We took out each piece
scrubbed it then rinsed it then rated it.Previously I went to the auto parts
store and bought a couple of engine brushes and they worked good.I carefully
inspected each rock .I guarentee you'll still find some cool stuff regardless.
Some dirty tanks grow some interesting things.
Anyway till this day (1 1/2 yrs later) it still
looks great but we added a ETS skimmer which given the choice again I would go
with Rons. Both the one we bought for my friend and the one I have completely
feel apart because of bad welding.Hope this helps and let me know if I can help
more.
Tom
PS I personally would not let the rocks
dry out!
