Okay, so here are a couple of questions...

1. I have an acropora that has grown to be about 3 inches under the
water surface. The MH bulb is 5 inches above the surface. What do you all do
when your SPS grow very close to the surface? Move em down? Frag em? Let em
grow?

2. I have another acro, that I have been puzzled by, and here is why.
It is a light brown coral that appears to be of the tabletop variety. The
challenge that I am having with this coral, is that it is having trouble
adjusting to my newly replaced MH bulb. I went from a 1 year old 175 watt
10k to a new 55k bulb, that was about 2 weeks ago. All of my other corals
have adjusted and are loving the new light. They have all colored up nicely
and seem to be doing well. This coral however, has really lost a lot of its
color, the polyps have not been extending. I moved it down to the bottom of
the tank and the brownish color has started to come back, and the polyps
have begun to extend. The question is, do you all think the coral just needs
more time to adjust, it may have been a lighter color when it was in the
ocean, and just turned that brown in captivity or is this a sure sign that
the coral was from a deeper region and should just be kept at lower light. I
am really surprised that an acro would not take the light I am giving it.
Especially this one. Its growth is very short, thick and dense. At the time
of bulb replacement, it was about 8 inches under water, and the bulb is only
a 175 watt MH and 200 watts of actinic VHO. I also used eggcrate for the
first 12 days over the tank.

TIA
Shane C.
